OPENING FILM OF GOOD REPORT CENSORED AT DIFF 2013
If you received this tag at the 34th Durban International Film Festival last night it means that you have an opportunity to see this years opening film. Well and even if you don't have this tag you could sneak in and sit on the stairs if all the seats are taken, after all it is a South African film by a South African filmmaker.
That afternoon (18 July 2013) I had a brief chat with Jahmil, director of the much anticipated film Off Good Report. I congratulated him on this offering and his response was that he would appreciate critical feedback from the film's audience. He did not just want a pat on the back, but he wanted his audience to be honest about their experience with the film.
This task I was ready for. I was ready to give him my feedback so I raced off to Suncoast Casino to book my ticket hoping that the film would not be SOLD OUT and to my surprise it WASN'T.
The task was still at hand.
Afternoon went and evening came and a snaking queue of filmmakers, media and film groupies was the first think you met when you arrive at the cinema.
We entered the cinema 1, only to be greeted by a screen and as per usual sat through Moosa's opening speech on behalf of the venue.
Logie's speech on behalf of the city...
Zama Mkhize, on behalf of the National Film and Video Foundation...
Peter Machen on behalf of the festival...
And wishing our former president Nelson Mandela a happy birthday. - Check it out, that is Jahmil in the foreground.
But my task was still at hand, I had to watch and rate this much anticipated movie, but to mine and the rest of the audience and not to mention the cast and crew, we were subjected to this...
this...
and this ...
...and with that... the task, has only just begun!

The Durban International Film Festival is not only a platform for
filmmakers from around the world to exhibit and market their film works,
but also a platform that is used to network and hopefully fruitful
co-productions can be realised.
This platform has introduced me year after year to a caliber of filmmakers, actresses, photographers, press attendees and socialites, but most importantly to women who are active and are stalwarts in the film and television industry. This blog is a tribute to the women filmmakers and those women who are advocating for more women to be involved in the film making industry, whether as a filmmaker or a policy maker. The adventures of this blog will begin in the city of Durban where we will speak to local filmmakers, film festival organisers, policy makers and development programmes creators. All these and more are Sisters In Technicolour.
I have had great opportunities on this filmmaker journey, even though I have not had not made my feature film yet, however I have been introduced to the processes of the industry and I hope that we will be able to share ideas and grow from strength to strength as women who have a voice in this industry.
Please note that I am not advocating for a feminist arena, but a platform where issues pertaining to women in the industry are addressed.
